Have You Been Approached for A Strategic Partnership?

In our business (the media business), we hear things like "we should work together" and "let's partner" all the time.  While in the majority of the cases there is really no substance, once in a blue moon we hear something compelling.  But many times people just "throw the idea out there" as a fishing expedition.  So I now have a fairly standard response... "hmmm, interesting.  What did you have in mind?"  This question does a couple of things.  First, it puts the burden of the next step on them (hey, I am a busy guy).  Second, I assume they have given this some thought so I can hear what is on their mind.

Even if I do have an idea of how we could work together, I'll still try to get them to speak first.  The reason for this is that it is much easier for me to sell an idea to someone if they think that it is their idea.
